That's what I'm thinking/hoping MC. Ugh, I'll probably wind up ordering food if it turns out to be all Merrick formulas, and that's such a PITA.

I guess I can switch her over to the Evo Boris gets in a few months, but she's not old enough yet...

Ugh. That's so irritating. We're switching Shanoa over to raw now, just because I'm kind of tired of all the problems with kibble. I might keep feeding her one or two meals of kibble a week, just to help cover vitamins, etc., but I'm finding that raw is actually way easier. After all, I can find raw meat everywhere. Sure, I can work harder to get cheaper food, but in a pinch I can run to the grocery store down the street.

I really, really hope it's just that flavor. Are you going to return the bag?

    MC

i feed Innova... for many years now.. and it has never been a problem through all the recalls etc of so many foods... i feel so good that i didn't follow my breeders advice when i bought Lady almost 7 years ago.. she fed Diamond.. and then ended up losing a few of her dobies.. when it was found to be contaminated.. i was not being stubborn about it .. i was just use to feeding Innova.. and it has been the best so far...so maybe you can try this one Jan.. i hope you find out what it was ..i would say it is the food.. especially for both dogs to get it.

MC, I've actually been following your transition to raw with a lot of interest, and it almost has me tempted to try it, even though I've never wanted to do it for the reasons stated in many other threads. After hearing about the results, and being that we don't have a lot of choice around here, it still could happen though....

Thanks for the tip on the Innova LD. We give Boris the Innova Evo, but Della is still a bit too young for it yet, and we can't get the regular Innova in the area. I checked quite some time ago and our feed store does carry it, but the biggest bags they carry are 5#, so that wouldn't be practical with a Dobe.

I drove the extra 20+ miles to get a different bag/flavor of the Merrick food after work today and wanted to try to feed Della right away, but much to my dismay, she didn't touch it again... She did proceed to completely bury it under her blanket though, so I don't know what that meant since I've never seen her do that before... LOL!
Tonight I decided to say screw it and gave her a good portion of the Evo and she ate every last drop of it, so I'm not sure what to think about why she suddenly turned her nose down at the Merrick....

Well, she cleaned up her bowl again this morning and I told Hubby to mix it half Evo and half Merrick out of the new bag, so hopefully this new bag of Merrick will be okay after all. I just hope there won't be unpleasant consequences with the sudden switch to all Evo last night, but it was getting to the point I had to do something because it was getting to be too long since she had eaten...

You know, Jan, I was hesitant to try raw again after how terrible it went when she was a puppy, but it's honestly going great. I may keep feeding a meal of her Orijen once or twice a week just to help with getting all the vitamins she needs. She hasn't had trouble with any of the food she's eaten at all. We've done all parts of the chicken, including a whole cornish game hen. She's eaten turkey legs, wings and necks. She's had pork necks and pork hocks. She's had chicken gibblets, liver, and hearts. I'm going to try a whole fish later this week. I haven't spent more than 99 cents a pound for anything, and mostly I've spent less than that. And it's definitely less than I'm spending on Orijen. She really loves the food, and it takes her a while to eat, especially if there's more bone. I've honestly found it pretty easy, although part of me is a little worried about making sure she gets what she needs, but I think we're doing well on the variety and the organ meat. I may end up doing a supplement, but I might not.

What I can't believe is how quickly and easily she took to it. She hasn't had one episode of diarrhea, only once had a somewhat soft stool. Mostly, though, she's been pooping a LOT less, and it's nice and firm. It's obvious that she's actually using more of what she's taking in, because there's a lot less waste coming out.

I sure hope that you can figure something out with Merrick. At least Della is getting close to old enough for the Evo. The more I talk to people the more dogs I see that do better on grain free. Just my experience, but it seems to work for a lot of dogs.

Maybe she decided Boris's food tastes better?
